Indigenous Australian Bushfoods

Our roving reporter, Sean Lynch, visits Cooya beach in Far North Queensland where Brandon teaches him some traditional hunting techniques and shares his extensive knowledge of this special area.
Mangroves are a valuable source of food for aboriginal people. Here, people from Maningrida in Arnhem Land gather a variety of foods in the mangrove forests which grow in the intertidal regions of the coast and tidal creeks. Foods found in the mangroves nclude mud crabs, mangrove worms,and a variety of shellfish. Middens are mounds of shells where Aboriginal people over centuries have cooked and eaten their catch.
